Featured Artist - Juliette Commagere

I present to you an artist I recently discovered that is starting to take the electronic music spotlight. Juliette Commagere hails from California with years of experience performing under her belt. Juliette's music meets the wonderful melodies compared to that of Imogen Heap. Juliette's new CD, Queens Die Proudly, is filled with exquisite tracks, one of my favorites being "Overcome."

Back to the Basics of Promoting

Whether I speak with people working in the industry or artists, everyone is trying to find the next best way to attract a substantial fan base. After noticing promotional tactics from various artists, it is obvious that promotion needs to be taken back to basics and bringing the artist closer to his or her potential fans.

1. MySpace messaging
Friend artists of other bands in similar genres.  After friending each person, go back and write a personal note explaining what your music is like and how the person you friended will be fond of your music too.

2. Facebook messaging
Send messages to friends on Facebook using the same method for "MySpace messaging."

With Facebook, there aren't really music pages. Instead, send personal messages to eachpersonal friend regarding shows, music, are anything regarding an artists' music.

3. Close and personal through video
Create a videos of yourself in which you discuss your music, play, and tell fans what is new and exciting in your life. Post the videos on Youtube, MySpace, and any other website.

4. Give a couple tracks of your music for free
Music is becoming a free commodity. People want to hear great music but at a low price. Give away some of your best tracks and later put the album out for sale. This will gain the attention of many people.

5. Street Team
Attempt to create a street team by gathering fans, friends and family. Have the street team post flyers in the areas they live and pass out CDs to various stores and concerts of other artists.

6. Newsletter
Obtain email addresses from fans and send out monthly newsletters, updating fans on any upcoming events or news.

7. Blogging
Set up an a blog for the artist, where the artist can communicate with his or her fans. Also, contact other local blogs and newspapers to promote upcoming shows an artist might have.

Featured artist - Andrew Bird

With his much anticipated album, Noble Beasts, set to release on January 20, Andrew Bird is creating a buzz. In a clever move, Bird leaked his album and is streaming Noble Beasts through NPR. Andrew Bird is a classically trained violinist who brings a gypsy/classical violin influence to contemporary music. Bird kicks off his new tour on January 19, right before the January 20 release of Noble Beasts
