Nick Drake fans, meet Will Stratton

Upon listening to the first single, "Your California Sky," a mixture of Iron and Wine, Sufjan Stevens, and Nick Drake came to mind, but the album took me to a narrow place in which I was able to further understand what makes No Wonder similar to something I've heard before. Each track has its acoustic charm, which is overlaid with strings, the occasional percussive beat, and Will's tender/soft voice embodying the full sound that makes his lyrics shine.

The first half of the album seems almost expected with the first six tracks representing the acoustic alikeness of Nick Drake and Iron and Wine, but changes when "It's Okay If You Want To" comes into the picture. "It's Okay If You Want To," "If Only," and "Nineteen" transition the album into a temporary rock phase that does not embrace the previous acoustic sound; however, the beat is rounded out and album closed with a ballad played on piano reflecting the overall folky tone of the album.

Will Stratton's lyrics reflect his stories and his trials by finding unique ways to bring closure, speak to his loved one, and convey emotion. Each track has a revealing title that gave me an understanding of what was to be heard. For a fan of Nick Drake or Iron and Wine, Will Stratton's, No Wonder, will be a sure win. Personally, I was able to understand what makes his music fitting of its genre.
